SoCS: Yesterday, Today, and Scrambled Eggs

Today’s prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “yes.” Find a word that starts with “yes” or use the word “yes” as is. Bonus points if you start your post with the word you choose. Enjoy!

The first thing I thought of was the Beatles song, “Yesterday.” Such a sad, but pretty song. “Why she had to go, I don’t know, she wouldn’t say, ” That’s a mystery right there. But the clue may be that he said something wrong.

It’s funny how things can seem so wrong but eventually turn out right. Funny and good. I don’t long for yesterday, though I might have in 1972 the day after 15-year-old David, my first boyfriend, moved so far away with his family. Today, the 66-year-old David, now my husband, is leading a spiritual “Cursillo” weekend at the beach. I’ll be joining them Sunday for the closing service.

Who would have guessed? Neither one of us.

God can take something wrong and, in time, make it work out better in a way we never expected.

Just goes to show….

Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow’s a mystery.

Today is a gift.

That’s why they call it the present.

I stepped out of the stream a bit to research the song, “Yesterday,” and came across this little piece of fun. Now I want scrambled eggs but will have to find a substitute since I’m vegan, like Paul changes chicken wings to tofu wings since he’s a vegetarian. I can always have a tossed salad without the scrambled eggs, but that’s another song…. from Frazier.

Good Triggers

Today’s Just Jot January prompt is, “trigger.” That’s the name of a character in our host’s interesting story.

When we think of psychological or emotional triggers, we often think of a word, image, smell, etc. that triggers something unpleasant. Maybe it’s an unpleasant memory, reaction, or past trauma. But stop! Don’t go there!

What about triggers that trigger good memories or positive reactions?

I seem to remember positive triggers being created when I was trained to do hypnosis. It was over ten years ago, and while I did some private practice work after completing my training, I haven’t kept up with it, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. Maybe something will trigger my memory of establishing a good trigger!

If someone is in a relaxed state or having a pleasant experience, and puts their hand on their heart, or makes an okay sign with their hand and repeatedly pairs the positive feeling with that gesture, then the idea is that the gesture will trigger the positive feeling. Now, I remember the word, anchor, was also used in our training.

The smell of pine triggers a memory of hiking in the woods. The smell of cloves or cinnamon can trigger the taste of pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving or Christmas memories.

How about a song triggering memories or feelings from long ago? A song that was popular in our formative years can take us back to that time. Dan at No Facilities recently shared some examples in this post “Name that Tune.”

Songs by The Beach Boys trigger memories from the late 1970s driving to the beach in my 69 Dodge Dart with the windows down because there was no AC in that car.

Roberta Flack’s The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face takes me back to 1972 when David and I were dating.

Some songs just trigger funny feelings and images, like The Beatles Yellow Submarine.

The Long and Winding Road

Helen was excited about her theme for today’s Song Lyric Sunday, and I can see why. Road trips!  For today’s theme, we are asked to post our favorite road trip song or a song about road trips. I remember that sense of adventure when we’d get up before dawn to get a jump on the traffic. Ah the memories!  Even packing can be exciting. Veering off the path a bit and taking the long way home, 😉  I’m sharing one of my all time favorites, one more time. This song by the Beatles became even more dear to me when my first love returned four decades later. I imagine it as part of the soundtrack if  when my book  becomes a movie.

Dreaming Big about My Book

Last week’s prompt (yes, I’m a little late) from my Online Writing Community via Andilit, was to imagine and write about what our books will look like: the cover colors, the size, weight, font, etc, and also what the movie version would be like. Following the lead of Coffeesnob, I decided to post my answer here. It couldn’t hurt, and it could activate the law of attraction to bring publication closer. I’ve known that to work! You can find a very short version of the story on my “About Me” page.

The working title is Perfect Timing, Lessons in Love, Faith, and Perseverance.

But I’ve also thought of simply: Love Faith and Perseverance.

An earlier title idea was : God Has A Plan.

For the book cover, I have two options in mind. The first uses a painting I’m working on:

(I still need to put some leaves on the trees.)

The other cover option is a 1972 photo of David and me:

I imagine the book as paperback of average size and weight, and E books of course.

For the movie version, I have always imagined Julianne Moore playing me. Maybe not the teenaged version of me, though it’s possible she could pull it off.

But there’s also Laura Prepon, who played Donna, from That 70’s Show. Donna always reminded me of the 70’s me.

Andi asked if we’d like to play a cameo role in our movie. I could play my mother, but that would be weird. As far as who would play my high school sweetheart, all the male actors I know about are old, so that will take some research to find a tall, sometimes brooding, but nice, young man who likes motorcycles.

And the best part about making my memoir into a movie, will be all that music from the 1970’s ! Like Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move,” and “So Far Away.” And the Beatles “The Long and Winding Road.”

The best way for the movie to end is with photos of our real wedding and this song by America:

I’m still editing the manuscript of 70,000 words and exploring publishing options like agents, small publishers and self publishing, but it’s fun to dream. Dreaming plus work brings the dream into reality.
