Stars, Seeds, Tears, and Raindrops

stream-of-consciousness-saturday-2018-19

Here’s our Stream of Consciousness prompt for today:

“fall from the sky.” Write about anything that falls from the sky–real, imagined, or idiomatic. Have fun!      (Linda G. Hill)

I can definitely have fun with this one.

If a meteor fell from the sky, would it squash us or bring aliens?  Carnivorous flowers from my unconscious mind are snaking into this post. I want to write about fun! Rain drops fall from the sky. We need some here as it’s been dry. If tears fall from the sky, does that mean God can cry?  I wouldn’t be surprised. If God laughs, would it make a rainbow? But you have to have water, rain, moisture,  for a rainbow.

Before long, maple seeds will fall from the sky like miniature helicopters. Spinning with delight to sprout seedlings with seemingly little effort.

If stars fell from the sky

Would they turn into fire flies?

Why would stars fall down from the sky?

This lady knew the answer.  I’m sorry she’s gone. Long gone. But she taught me to sing, and for that I am grateful.

Feeling musical, and getting back to raindrops that fall from the sky and landing on my head….

(Don’t try this without a stunt double!)

For more about Saturday’s Stream of Consciousness, visit our host, Linda Hill at:

https://lindaghill.com/2019/05/03/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-may-4-19/

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

Better Than Drugs

Stars from pixabay

The moon has yet to rise.

In the darkness,

Ocean’s horizon blends with sky.

Her white crests rolling  into the sand,

Just a murmur tonight

Rising now and then

To remind us of her power.

When I gaze at the stars,

I get the feeling there is more.

Much more.

I am overwhelmed by the distance.

My senses try to adjust

To something foreign

Yet, intimate.

The vastness of ocean

pales compared to the sky dome.

The Universe whispers,

“This is not a sky dome.”

I reach up to touch the Milky Way.

My finger floats above my head

Feeling lost at first.

But there is energy in the air

Where the ocean meets the sky.

I can’t touch it like I touch your face.

But I can feel it’s energy. His energy. Her energy.

Not just in my finger,

In my whole body

and more

Expanding all around me.

Reaching back to me.

Shouting to me from eternity,

“Yes! I’m here!”

“We are here!”

As I reach up to touch the sky.

Better than drugs.

Being Present with Music, Lights, and Jesus

socs-badge

Our Stream of Consciousness prompt for today is: present. Or maybe it was Present. It doesn’t matter.

I’m really going to not think about this much which will make it real stream-of-consciousnessy. It’s hard to not plan ahead at all what I’m going to write. I’ve been painting in the bathroom and have not gotten to work on my memoir on my day off, so I’m really not very present at all. Yet I do enjoy the SoCS thing very much. So let me focus. Deep breath.

Present!  Being in the present moment is a goal. Buying presents during the holiday season makes that even more challenging. Will they like this? Should I spend that much? I don’t want this holy day to be about material presents.

I was talking with my husband about not getting each other material presents, but then I’d wonder if he was going to get me a present anyway, and end up getting him one…….silly stuff. I am going to buy my 21 year old daughter a camera, because she’s got talent, and I’m going to give my son financial help to get here for Christmas Eve, which is really a gift to myself. I’m going to sing in the choir, that’s a present to myself as well as others, I hope……..I just realized I’m not very present right now. I’m thinking about the future. That seems to be what the holiday season is about, as far as time spent thinking about things. There’s a big build up, a frenzy even, to the big day and then a crash or sorts. I don’t like that.

One thing that helps me stay in the present is the gift of music. Singing helps me be present. And looking at Christmas lights!  I love Christmas lights! Now I’m getting excited, like a child about Christmas lights!

Oh, and there’s Jesus.  I’m remembering you, Jesus. For me, that’s what it’s really about anyway. And Christmas lights! sparkly twinkly colorful lights.

What’s the connection between Christmas lights and Jesus?

“A star, a star dancing in the night…………………….

………….He will bring us goodness and light!”

Good presents!

If you squint your eyes and tilt your head from side to side, Christmas lights look like dancing stars.
