The Pressure’s On!

But it’s a soft pressure, a nudge, a tickle, a gentle kick in the butt, if there is such at thing, to get moving on my goals. One of my first goals, since I’ve cut back on my old job, is to create a website from my WordPress blog.

As some of you know from yesterday’s post, I pressed the buy button on a domain name with my name not realizing it would automatically replace joannaoftheforest. If I’d know it would do that, and by it, I mean WordPress, I would have warned you. Fortunately, it seems that you can still find me, or so I surmise from yesterday’s comments.

From what I gather from a brief tutorial on YouTube, I will need to make a static home page. Maybe I’ll rename my blog page, and then add a home page that is static. Obviously, I need to study this process more and look at themes that are more website looking. For someone who has for years referred to herself as “low tech,” I’m not all that panicked by this task. I created a website for my church, but this seems a little trickier at this point. It’s probably one of those things that turn out to be relatively simple after it’s all done.

To all my followers and visitors, I want to impress upon you this message like a verbal massage:

How long can you work “tirelessly” ?

I get really annoyed when someone says/commends me or someone else by saying he, or she has worked “tirelessly” when we were damn tired.

There I said it.

If someone really worked tirelessly, they would be on a lot of caffeine, or manic, or maybe just passionate about the work, but eventually, we get tired. All of us.

So what would be a better commendation?

She worked really hard. He worked from sun up to sun down. You did a good job! Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?  I’m sounding a little negative here, which I don’t usually do on this blog. But hey, I’m human and this is a little pet peeve of mine.

It is possible to work tirelessly – but not forever. Okay enough of that.

There are some things I would never tire of. Things I’ve not had the chance to get tired of anyway, like a massage. Can you imagine a massage that goes on as long as you want it to? Maybe a tag team of three massage therapists. Could a person overdose on a massage that went on and on into blissitude? Could your muscles actually get tired from a massage? I’d like to find out.

Other things I don’t think I’d get tired of are: stained glass windows, soft and gentle music if it’s varied enough, the oatmeal I have every morning with fruit and walnuts, (though I wouldn’t mind pancakes for dinner once in a while). I don’t think I’d get tired of Star Trek, which I rarely watch anymore. I doubt I’d ever get tired of the color blue, though of course anything is possible. It would take a long time for me to get tired of dark chocolate.

And I truly don’t think I would get tired of God’s love. Agape. The unconditional love that never ends.

Back to Better Health

Our stream of consciousness post today, from Linda Hill’s substitute teacher, Pavowski, is the word: “back.”

As I sit here, it’s hard to ignore my back, which coincidentally has a sore muscle. I have no idea why, but every now and then, there’s a muscle that starts to ache, lately on one side or the other, then it turns into little spasms. Not incapacitating, but quite distracting, and limiting my ability to turn and look behind me when I’m driving and want to back up or change lanes.

Thankfully these mysterious aches always go away in a few days with those heat rubs and a little TLC and maybe some ibuprofen. Yesterday I used a herbal patch that helped a lot, but the annoying ache is back again this morning.

I write this on Friday so I can post Saturday morning. No that’s not cheating!  It’s okay to do your homework the day before its due.  It just so happens that today, 12/12, is my birthday. So with my back and my birthday, I’m going back to my annual tradition of a birthday massage. Because I deserve it!

I wonder if my back is doing this every couple of months because I’m not in the best shape. I used to due -I’m leaving this typo because I’m due for some- yoga regularly and have gained at least ten pounds since getting married two years ago. And there is that age thing creeping steadily up now as close to 60 as it could be without being there. One more year of not being 60. I’m okay with the  number. Just being silly. I do have to get back to taking better care of myself. It seems that as our bodies age, we have to work harder at taking care of our health.

So, back to stretching and yoga and mindful eating. EVERY DAY.

…..and loving my body with kind words instead of irritated complaints.
