My Bike and Doodle, aka, Doodle Bug
It had been several months since I took my bike out for a spin. But Thursday night, I was determined to go catch up with my husband who was out walking Doodle our coon hound. First I had to walk Marigold who is 16 and very slow. She wants to go for walks with Doodle, but she can’t keep up anymore.

Marigold, aka, Mary Moo, aka Moodle
I wanted to ride with Doodle and David so I could ward off wayward dogs on the loose because Doodle does not like other dogs. She wants her people all to herself but will tolerate Marigold. I figured I could at least alert David to loose dogs on his route. But I got out of the gate late.
Hunting for David and Doodle, I turned around a few times in the wide space of quiet intersections. Quiet because it was night time. Riding my bike felt good – the wind in my hair and remembering all those years I rode my ten speed everywhere back in the day. But this bike is not my sleek old ten speed. I took the big turnarounds okay in the intersections, but when I finally spotted my pack members and tried to make a turnaround on the street, my clunky yard sale Schwinn didn’t turn like my old ten speed. I couldn’t break with my hand and turn at the same time because it’s one of those you have to pedal backwards to slow down. Anyway, I toppled over at the end of the turn.
It’s funny that I was more embarrassed at the time than worried about injury. But I scraped up my knee real good and have a bruise on my other leg. (I’d show you a picture, but it would be gross.) I did however pick myself and my bike up and continued to ride home.
I decided I should not go swimming in the ocean yesterday with my friend. The wound was still too fresh and I didn’t want to risk attracting sharks. But I will be swimming on Sunday when my son and his family come to visit.
And I will be on my bike again once I’m well-healed. I just have to be more careful on the turnarounds. Better to go straight or get off the bike and walk it around.
One more thing. The summer is not over yet. Fall doesn’t start until September 22. So don’t rush my summer away. There’s still time to swim and bike and play around.
Today’s prompt for Saturday Stream of consciousness was, “round.” We could use it as a word by itself or use a word that contains it.
For more information and to join in the fun, visit Linda Hill at:
https://lindaghill.com/2018/08/31/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-sept-1-18/
Here are the rules:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.
8. Have fun!
