US Anti-lynching Act Becomes Law
Last week, US President Biden signed the Emmett Till anti-lynching act into law. Good Morning America reports: “Under the bill, an offense can be prosecuted as a lynching when the offender conspires to commit a hate crime that results in someone’s death or serious bodily injury under this bill. This includes kidnapping and aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to kidnap, abuse, or kill.” The bill was named for a 14 year old African American boy who was lynched in 1955 after being accused of offending a white woman in a Mississippi store. 101-Year-Old Man Receives High School Diploma
On March 19, Merrill Pittman Cooper finally received his high school diploma at the age of 101. Mr. Cooper attended Storer College in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, from 1934 to 1938, but had to drop out during his senior year for financial reasons. After a “long and accomplished career in the transportation industry,” Mr. Cooper visited the school, which is now part of a National Historical Park, and expressed regret over not earning a diploma. A Flamingo Who Escaped a Kansas Zoo in 2005 was Recently Spotted in Texas
A flamingo named Pink Floyd had not yet had his wings clipped when he and a friend escaped a Kansas zoo 17 years ago. Unfortunately, the friend went north and has not been seen, but Pink Floyd appears to be alive and well in Texas.
