Seeking Balance One Tuesday at a Time

Solar Power Growth is Setting Records Worldwide

Solar Power installations increased by 76 percent worldwide in 2023 compared to 2022. See the charts in this article from Canary Media.

US Sees Decrease in Opiate Overdose Deaths

National US surveys compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show an unprecedented decline in deaths from opiate overdose since a steady rise appeared a few years ago. For details, see this informative article from NPR.

Colorado Leads the US in Constructing Wildlife Crossings

Learn about how Colorado is leading the way for in wildlife crossings in the US. This article from my Good Newsletter includes an excellent video of some of the overpasses and underpasses completed and in the works. Some areas have seen a 90% reduction in vehicle accidents involving wildlife.

Planting Olive Trees in Palestine

In my GoodNewsletter email I read about 2500 olive trees being planted at a farm on the West Bank for the International Day of Peace – September 21st. You can read about the event and its significance in this article which led me to learn more about the non-profit Treedom for Palestine. This organization plants olive trees with a goal of strategic sustainability. They work to keep the trees safe on 75 “Freedom Farms” by choosing locations away from settlements and building steel fencing around each farm many of which are owned by women.

“Planting olive trees is an act of peace and prosperity in the darkness of war…. We’re not giving up on a peaceful future. ” __Palestinian Farmers Union president Abbas Milhem

Learn more about the work of Treedom for Palestine in the following interview with Cyrus Copeland. This video is a bit longer than what I usually share in GNT, but I found it worthwhile and interesting.

  5. While this article link isn’t “good” news (in fact, in many ways it is very “omg, people have way too much time and what is the world coming to???), it totally made me laugh in its, um… I don’t even know what to call it! Anything in the WaPo that can make me LAUGH is “good” news to me right now! According to the Washington Post “Fridgescaping” is EVERYWHERE! Since I had never heard of it, and I hate being left out of the loop, I had to check it out… and now share. 🙂 https://www.washingtonpost.com/home/2024/09/23/pros-cons-fridgescaping-decor/

    • I agree about the value of laughter and people with too much time. For a second, I thought of fridgescaping one shelf, but it’s not high on my list. Thanks for the chuckle! 🙂

    • The opiate overdose decrease shows what we humans can do when we work together for a good cause. Peace trees gives me hope. I’m glad you appreciated these stories with me, Selma. Bless you, always. ❤
