Good News Tuesday for Dec. 6, 2022: A Special Astronaut, Taiwan’s Underground Vertical Farms, Dealing with Nightmares, and Wildlife Crossings in Montana

Seeking Balance One Tuesday at a Time

First “Disabled” Astronaut Named by European Space Agency

Former British Paralympic sprinter John McFall was chosen by the 22-nation European Space Agency for astronaut training as part of a group of 17 recruits. Here’s more from Reuters.

Underground Vertical Farms

In Taiwan, old subway stations are being transformed into hydroponic farms reducing the need for pesticides and herbicides. There’s even a store upstairs that sells the organic produce. You can read more from Euronews, OR click HERE for a video.

Strategies for Dealing with Nightmares

When I worked as a counselor, I encouraged clients to create alternative endings to their uncomfortable dreams and nightmares. Now research confirms that this strategy helps. The following article has details. Read more here.

Wildlife Crossings Make a Difference in Montana

A network of 42 wildlife crossings in Montana have decreased animal collisions by 71%. Cameras at 29 structures have documented over 22,000 animals using the crossings. Watch and listen to how the Native “sovereign nation” influenced the development of this project on what used to be considered one of the most dangerous roads in the US. One question they asked: “How do we make the road respectful?” For details, see this article from I found the following video positive and inspiring.

  1. You have found some great news for the week. I so love this series you do 😀

  2. I love those subway gardens! Genius!

  3. Keep sharing the good news!

  4. All good news! I especially loved the news about the underground vertical farms in Taiwan and the wildlife crossings in Montana.

    • I’m glad you loved those stories. The video about the Montana wildlife crossings felt good to watch and listen to. Thanks for reading and appreciating the good news!

  5. You will not be surprised that I choose the wildlife crossings, especially as driven by an indigenous nation.

    • We’re thinking alike on this one. The wildlife crossings story was my favorite too, especially as driven by an indigenous nation. So much wisdom there.

  6. Wildlife crossings touch my heart. Analyzing and manipulating dreams and nightmares appeals to my imagination. The good news here is so diverse, JoAnna! ❤ My good news is that after being down for nearly a week, our internet and TV, and house phones are back in service! You certainly do "miss the water when the well runs dry!" 🙂

    • Wow! Internet, TV and house phones down for a week! I can only imagine the change. I’d have gotten a lot of reading or cleaning done. Glad it’s back! Thanks for appreciating the good news with me, Cheryl. Imagination can be a great asset when used well, like when I remember to rewrite my anxiety laden daydreams to make them reflect my hopes instead of my fears.

  7. Yay! I reconnected with Good News Tuesdays! (I started a new site & am just getting back around to some of my old favorites) ✨

  8. All good stories, JoAnna. It’s always fun to stop here on Tuesday.
