SoCS: Can We Just Go Without Screaming?

15 Comments

Revolution.

I’d like a quiet one, please.

Is that possible?

Anything is possible, right?

But we need to speak up

For a revolution.

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Children. Animals. Planet Earth.

But the planet is speaking to us.

Are we listening?

Not enough.

So we must speak for the planet.

Sing for the birds.

Dance for the children.

Hope. Believe. Speak.

Try to speak with kindness

Not with hate.

Whenever you can,

Strive for peace,

But not peace at any cost.

Balance the cost.

We each make a choice

Every day. Every hour.

All is not lost.

There are still possibilities.

Perhaps we may not go quietly.

Can we just go without screaming?

~~~
I keep wanting to add something, to clarify…. Maybe we do need to scream. Maybe some things are screamworthy. This just reflects my stream of consciousness. I don’t like loud. Chanting is good. Singing is good.
Sing it with me: “All we are saying, is give peace a chance.”
And…
I’m stepping out of the stream a bit now, because I found this relatively short TED talk about a quiet revolution. Susan Cain talks about quiet leadership and empowering introverts for the benefit of all. She offers this quote from Mahatma Gandhi:
“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”
~~~

Today’s prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is……. “rev.” Use “rev” or find a word that contains it. Have fun! Thanks, Linda!

  1. Excellent post love your poem💜

  2. These are wonderful thoughts, JoAnna. These days, it doesn’t seem we can do anything without shouting, but I support this.

  3. Powerful poem! Powerful message! I would much rather have a quiet revolution than a violent one that would divide us more and hurt us all. I love the version of “Give Peace a Chance” by The Peace Choir. Very interesting talk by Susan Cain. As an introvert forced to become an extrovert for survival, I now consider myself an introverted extrovert.

    • Thank you, Rosaliene. I’m glad you like the message. I liked this version of “Give Peace a Chance,” too. I had to extrovert for my job and it is good to have those skills. Now, I enjoy relaxing into introversion more often.

  4. Thank you for sharing your wonderful poem and thoughts!.. believe this world could do with a little less screaming and a little more polite conversation… 🙂

    Until we meet again..
    May your day be touched
    by a bit of Irish luck,
    Brightened by a song
    in your heart,
    And warmed by the smiles
    of people you love.
    (Irish Saying)

    • Thanks for understanding, Larry. I agree with less screaming and more polite conversation. In most situations, we can make our point and still be at least respectful.

  5. Lovely and wise verse JoAnna. I like the idea of a quiet revolution where we stand up for a new loving world without fighting or causing more pain.
