One-Liner Wednesday on Children and Laptops

Children need places where they feel safe.

We can’t protect them from everything,

but we can give them our best.

Colin Powell died on Monday, October 18, 2021. He was an American statesman, four-star general, and the first African-American US secretary of state. He served as commander of the US Armed Forces and the US National security advisor. He was born in New York City in 1937 to Jamaican immigrant parents, raised in the Bronx, and went to public schools before joining the army.

A diplomatic moderate, Colin Powell was the only republican that I would have considered voting for as a US president. Anything is possible.

  1. Excellent share. May the good man Rest In Peace. He was a model human and boy, did he say wise words. Thanks for sharing. Loved. Be well n

  2. Love this

  3. Those are wonderful words, JoAnna, from a great and sensible man. It’s true – children need human contact far more than a computer screen. It’s part of what makes us compassionate and empathetic.

  4. Wise words from a great statesman. Thanks for sharing, JoAnna.

  5. Yeah, he was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs when I served in Iraq. Heck of a commander. He will be sorely missed.

  6. Wonderful tribute, JoAnna! I think Colin Powell and John McCain were the last of a generation of great Republicans. My late husband worked for John McCain for two years as a health care advisor. He knew Colin Powell and urged him several times to run for president. I think the Republican Party has “lost its soul” in recent years, though I do respect a few Republicans. In any case, I’d like to see more Republicans like Powell and McCain with a willingness to work across the aisle and get things done!

  7. Thank you for sharing!!… Colin Powell was a wonderful person and this world could use a more like him… unfortunately, in the end it all comes down to the people and if the people are in denial, all the Colin Powell’s in the universe won’t help…. but there is hope… “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul – and sings the tunes without the words – and never stops at all.” (Emily Dickinson)…. 🙂

    Until we meet again…
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
    wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
    with joy that long endures.
    May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
    (Irish Saying)
