“Opportunity in Challenge”: Giving Rice for Plastic
On the island of Bali, covid 19 dramatically hurt the tourism industry. Many workers returned to their villages and trash piled up on the beaches. Made Janur Yasa, a vegan restaurant owner in the town of Ubud, started a program in his home village where local villagers could exchange plastic for rice. His non-profit, Plastic Exchange, became a success and spread across other villages in Bali. You can learn more about the program and its creator at CNN Heroes. Thanks, Dave. That one grabbed my attention this morning. I looked for a video about it, but the closest I came was one about Nigerian women climbing that mountain a few years ago. The training and preparation for both groups is inspiring.
