SoCS: Birthday Plans, Strange Clouds, and Rainbows

Today’s SoCS prompt from Linda Hill is, “where.” Use it any way you’d like!

Where am I?

In the mountains of NC, but not exactly, because I’m in the city/town of Boone which is in a valley, so I can see the mountains. We are here for my granddaughter’s 10th birthday which was yesterday and my son’s birthday is today. Yep. His birthday is on 9/11. It was his birthday 36 years ago, when 9/11 was just 9/11 and his birthday. So we are having a party at the park this afternoon, mostly for my granddaughter who is 10 years old! Oh, I said that already. But it’s double digits! She’s still into sparkles, rainbows, and unicorns.

Thanks to my husband David driving us here, I got to take pictures of clouds. What do you see in the sky today? What do you see in these pictures? It’s open to interpreation. I hope all you see in the sky today is clouds, birds, butterflies, and maybe a rainbow. Oh, and the sun, but don’t look at it directly or too long.

This is an older photo that I just like.

I spend my fair share of time reading the news and remembering, analyzing, and certainly in gratitude. Sometimes we just need to look at the clouds. I hope you get to be somewhere nice, peaceful, and safe today.

Where do you go for more streams of consciousness and to find out the rules?

  1. Happy birthday to your son and Granddaughter!
The two photos you as what we see? I see two beautiful Firebirds. 💜💜

  2. Happy birthday to your granddaughter and son. When I was a small girl guide [called a Brownie here] the pack leader told us Colonel Baden-Powell’s birthday was on the 22nd of February, the same day as mine. I always remember one of the Brownie’s telling me that was impossible. No-one else could have a birthday on the same day as the illustrious creator of the scout movement apparently.

    • Thank you! That’s interesting that the other brownie thought it was impossible. That must have been frustrating. I hope she learned something that day. I think of all the things that used to be thought impossible that have come into reality. I was a brownie here in the US and complained that we didn’t do any hiking. Then when the troop did go hiking I was sick. Fortunately I had other hiking opportuniities. Happy Saturday!

  3. Happiest of birthdays to your son and granddaughter. Maybe it is because of the day, but I see a Phoenix rising i. The clouds. It is a beautiful day in my part of North Carolina, too. Enjoy your weekend. Blessings all around.

  4. Happy birthday to your son and granddaughter and have a wonderful time, JoAnna!

  5. That first picture could very definitely be an angel :)..beautiful cloud formations. Enjoy the birthdays.

  6. Happy Birthday to your loved ones! We were near that area a month ago, and now I’m happily envious. 😊 Wish I was there. I see the Angel, and like others have observed, I see a Phoenix.

    • We actually made it up to quieter area of Linville for the night where the air is cooler and fresher. I’m glad you see the angel and the Phoenix. Thanks for the birthday wishes! My husband told me happy birthday because I was the one who birthed my son. I hope you get to return to the mountains. They’ll be waiting for you. 🙂

  7. It’s good to have something happy to celebrate today. Pretty clouds.

  8. I love your cloud photos — such a beautiful blue sky framing those white fluffs. My hubby’s parents got married on 9/11. The first few years after the attack it felt so strange to say “happy” anything on that day…

    • I’m glad you enjoyed the clous, Laura. I can relate to the strangeness of celebrating anything on 9/11, but people got married and children were born. Celebrations are important.

  9. Hope you and your family are enjoying happy birthday celebrations 🙂 My best friend in Brazil also celebrates her birthday on 9/11. She was living in Pennsylvania on that fatal day and decided to return to Brazil. I love your cloud pictures. I immediately saw the giant bird on the bottom right.

  10. Beautiful clouds! It’s always fun to see shapes in the sky! Happy Birthday to your son and your grand-daughter! Looks like a great day for celebrations. My grand-daughter’s birthday is today, too, and she is 8 years old. 🙂

  11. Your granddaughter’s and your son’s birthdays are far more important than anything else that happened on this date. Happy birthday to both of them!

  12. Lovely clouds. An awkward day for a birthday

  13. Thank you for sharing your adventure and lovely photos!!.. a belated Happy Birthday to everyone and hope all the presents, and the day, were filled with love and happiness!!.. a sad day in history’s past but “You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading your last chapter.” (Author Unknown ), so a good day for life and happiness instead of death and sorrow.. 🙂

    Until we meet again..

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
    wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
    with joy that long endures.
    May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
    (Irish Saying)

  14. What a fun post! I love looking at the clouds. Thanks, JoAnna. ❤ Perfect weather for birthday parties!
