SoCS: Buttercups!

Today’s Stream of Consciousness prompt is “butter.”

We are not going to write about, wait, who’s we? Me and the cat? She’s not interested in writing. She just wants to cuddle since she hid most of the day yesterday in the bedroom where maybe she was trapped. I don’t know. But I don’t want to write about the first thing that popped into my head, the butter in the refrigerator and object of my cheating in my endeavors to be vegan for lent. I’d rather write about the second thing that popped into my head:

Buttercup!

Photo of buttercups my daughter, Ayla, took in the mountains

Then, I thought of Princess Buttercup in The Princess Bride and found this commentary about how she is not just a typical, helpless, fairy tale princess. She is not in love with the prince. She loves to ride her horse. It made me like her more. I didn’t realize until recently that the same woman who played Princess Buttercup, played Jenny in Forest Gump. Back to the commentary.

Horses and freedom. My horse phase was more than a phase. I actually had my own horse in my twenties. I miss horses. And the beach. But there’s no reason I know of that we can’t go back to the things we love in some way or other – if it’s meant to be, we will find a way. Trust the Timing.

Spring is coming. With buttercups!

That was way more fun that writing about my awful side effects from Moderna 1 and 2. But that is over and done with, and I’m very glad. I survived, and I’m thankful for my strong immune reaction.

Buttercups! Daisies! Roses! Orchids!

Check out the orchids and other flowers blooming in time lapse from Nat Geo! They even have fairy tale like music to go with the images of Princess Bride riding her horse. That’s my stream of consciousness for this Saturday.

But wait!

I forgot all about sharing that commercial where they sing the buttercup song. Can I have three videos in one post? Let’s see! I’m not promoting the product. I just love TV commercials that use old songs like this. I’d totally be singing with her if I was in the store. It doesn’t matter that the lyrics are sorta sad. It’s got a good beat and it’s easy to sing to.

  1. I often find myself unmuting the TV when a Geico commercial comes on. That’s a good one. I’m glad you went for three.

  2. When we were children we’d hold a buttercup under our chin, and if our chin turned yellow, it meant we loved butter. Silly yes….πŸ˜…

  3. Wow, that’s quite a collection for SoCS and butter. Am sorry to hear that you had a bad time with the vaccine. I had one dose of the Astra Zeneca and had two hours of horrible shivering on the day and was very tired the next day. However, my joints hurt ever since but I was told that’s the Tamoxifen against the breast cancer. You can’t win πŸ˜ŠπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈπŸ

  4. I could watch the flowers bloom all day πŸ™‚

  5. I agree on those commercials with catchy tunes! The one with Smokey Robinson just melts me! (I can’t even tell you what it’s selling though! LOL)

  6. What a delightful post, JoAnna! Thanks for brightening my day πŸ™‚ I watched and enjoyed all three videos. I’ve don’t recall ever seeing the movie The Princess Bride: I’ll have to correct that. As I watched the flowers unfold in slow motion, I couldn’t help thinking about seeing our girls grow into beautiful women. That commercial also caught my attention: It was well done.

  7. Sorry to hear about your Moderna 1 & 2 experience. I only had a reaction to Moderna 2 and I’m also grateful. Signs it is working per Dr. Benson. Lovely post with a Prince Bride clip. Simply delightful to watch flowers blooming.

  8. I think it is a good sign when you have a reaction to the vaccine. But good to have gotten it done right? The wild buttercups are so pretty on the tree. I have never seen them before. The flower video is very pretty too.

    • Yes, I hear it’s a good sign to have a reaction, and I’m glad to have gotten the vaccine done. I’m also glad you enjoyed the flowers. πŸ™‚

  9. Lovely flowersin your daughter’s photo and the National geographic video. If you miss riding horses, you should do it again. πŸ™‚ Have a great week, JoAnna!

  10. Ooh! I *love* buttercups.AND The Princess Bride!

  11. I loved the time-lapsed video of the flowers opening … so beautiful! But … you’re not going to believe the coincidence! About 30 minutes before visiting your post, I finished my daily music post and put it on the schedule … guess … you got it — Build Me Up Buttercup!!! Karma? Great minds think alike? Or sheer coincidence? Loved this post!

    • I wonder if you heard it on the TV commercial. Either way, it’s a bouncy, springy song… and great minds do think alike! πŸ™‚ So glad you loved the post!

      • What prompted my post was something I saw on Twitter … one of the guys I follow said he’d love to hear this song and it stuck in my head right then and there, and refused to budge until I played it! I always enjoy your posts, JoAnna … I just wish I had time to visit more often!

  12. I know the vaccine side effects are a bummer, but so glad you are now among the vaccinated.

The Princess Bride is one of my family’s favorite movies. Lots of memorable lines and defiance of convention!
