Thursday Tree Love: My Favorite Sycamore

I’ve shared about the sycamore in my backyard before, but I love this tree so much, I wanted to share her beautiful fall colors.

This tree is very close to my house and has been leaning a little bit over the backyard (and my neighbor’s backyard) ever since a big hurricane maybe 20 years ago. Her deep roots have held firm ever since. From her base, she’s grown an additional slender branch or trunk? for balance.

When I thought my recently adopted semi-feral cat had escaped, I spent a good amount of time outside lying on a blanket hoping and praying she would show up. That’s when I took the following video looking up at my favorite sycamore. The cat had been hiding in the house the whole time and is fine.

The windmill is made from box fan blades hung on the old fence post.

  1. Beautiful Joanna..Trees are always special, a refreshment to our soul

  2. I love trees. When I was young girl, I use to always hang out under a tree. it’s like they would speak to me. Today, I still hang out under a tree. Thank you for sharing.

    • I understand! When I am still and close to trees, I always feel something special going on. Sometimes I lay my hands on them and feel a subtle energy. I think they like it when we try to “listen” to them.

  3. Wow! That’s an awesome tree!!

  4. A wonderful tree to have in your own backyard

  5. Just wonderful! I love the video because sometimes a picture doesn’t tell the whole story. I took video of the leaves falling from trees as I walked beneath them a few days ago. There’s no way a still image could capture all that glory.

  6. Trees are love small worlds supporting their own eco systems which in turn support us. Your post is lovely.

  7. Awesome! The foliage against the blue sky and sun is a treat! I am glad your cat is safe!

  8. JoAnna, I have always LOVED sycamore trees! None here, but your lovely photos brought back a long-forgotten painting I did forty years ago…a sycamore tree growing on the snowy bank of the Shenandoah River with blackbirds perched in the branches. I don’t remember what became of it…anyway, I think your tree is gorgeous and heroic, I think the windmill is ingenious, and I am so glad your cat is home and doing well! All the best! Cheryl πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Cheryl. Heroic is a great word for my sycamore. I hope someone is enjoying your painting. It sounds lovely! πŸ™‚ All the best to you and yours!

  9. I love your Sycamore. I have only seen one in your pictures so every time I see your tree, I feel like I am there watching it. SO THANK YOU for joining and showing the colors of the tree. It’s so beautiful.
    See you tomorrow.

  11. Enjoyed your video, the upcycled windmill, and the faint sound of the wind chime. Trees can be such inspiring survivors.

    • Thank you, Alana. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and my windmill and that you heard the windchimes. Being out with the trees that day was very comforting. They inspire me every time I stop and open up to their strength. Nice to associate with people who understand.
