On a breezy, gray winter day
Leaves rustled overhead.
It must have been magnolias
since their neighbor’s leaves were shed.
The living leaves clicked softly
Chiming in with whispers
Knowing some would soon make room
for lemon scented flowers.
Some of the older magnolia leaves will drop off in early spring to make room for flowers. The magnolia flowers I see in my neighborhood have big, white petals with a hint of yellow and a lemony scent.
I thought this was an interesting trunk, Do you see a heart?
Here’s an older photo of a winter magnolia on a sunny day:

We have a magnolia in front of the house that they never cut the bottom branches off of, Kind of cool, actually.
January 23, 2020 at 8:45 pm
It sounds very cool. I bet the squirrels and other little animals like it.
January 23, 2020 at 2:56 pm
I love magnolia trees, never had much success at growing them.

I’ve got some volunteers I’m going to have to move. Apparently they like it here. I hope you get to enjoy them often even if they’re not nearby.

I think I see a face in that last tree picture! Lovely poem, JoAnna. It leaves me with the welcoming of lemon scent…
January 23, 2020 at 8:50 pm
I’m glad you got the lemon scent AND bonus points for the face in the last tree! I was going to mention that, but it wasn’t clear. I’m not surprised you saw it.

Yay! Bonus! I love that. ♥️ And the heart 🙂

I see the heart! Don’t you love how the magnolias remain green and shiny all year?
January 23, 2020 at 9:17 pm
Yes! I do love the green and shiny all year long. Magnolias are amazing! Thanks for sharing this appreciation for them. 🙂

It’s quite refreshing to find people who love trees and try to ensure the conservation of trees and afforestation by raising awareness. Kudos to you for your effort. A good read.. 🙂
Thank you so much for visiting my profile.. 🙂 Would love to know about your feedback as well..!!

Thank you for understanding and appreciating my work. It encourages me to be (among other things) the lady with all the trees in her yard. 🙂
January 28, 2020 at 11:11 pm
You are welcome Madam..!! Thank you for sharing..
Trees are needed, more so nowadays to eliminate Global Warming and restore the aesthetics of the landscape – rural or urban.
You are an inspiration. We need more women and men with more “trees in their yard”
January 29, 2020 at 9:32 pm
We do need trees now more than ever. Thank you for your support!

Imagining a tree with a lemon scented flower. How delightful that must be.
February 3, 2020 at 11:41 pm
It’s a soft, mild lemony scent in the flower which has large, soft petals. Yes, delightful! I’ll try to get some photos in a few months.

What a sweet one. I have only seen Magnolias on Thursday Tree Love. They are so big and look so beautiful. Also, that truck is interesting. It seems as if two have come together as one. I also see a heart 🙂
Thanks for joining, JoAnna with this lovely entry. I hope to see you on the 13th.

The tree with a heart. What a lovely sight these magnolias make.
February 13, 2020 at 11:05 pm
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed them.

Indeed I see a heart! These Magnolias have imposing trunks as well .. the driveway looks amazing..
February 15, 2020 at 10:41 am
I’m glad you see the heart. 🙂 Magnolias are pretty sturdy. What looks like a driveway is a wide sidewalk at the city park that goes around a lake. It’s a very nice park.
