The devastation from fires in Australia is hard to watch. But there are helpers. A group of quilters in The Netherlands is making mittens for koalas and pouches for kangaroos suffering burns from the bush fires. The mittens and pouches must be made entirely from cotton. Here’s more of the story.
Thank you to all the helpers, including the staff of Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. Here’s the link for their gofundme page.

It is way to sad, I couldn’t watch the whole video.

I’m sorry. I have not been able to watch much about the fires other than the rescues and helpers.

It seems we both chose stories about helping animals. I love the mittens.

Such precious little animals. I think that I read on the NET that this one died. But I am not 100% positive that this really is the one. At any rate, I really hope that this badly burned fella made it. The koala is so cute and so interesting. Such a shame about all the forest fires that are decimating the trees and the wildlife living there.

Thank you for understanding and caring. I hope that the rescued koalas who didn’t make it at least felt comforted and loved.

I’m glad the national news felt it worthy of reporting.

Lovely story JoAnna, I too chose a Koala story, they are such adorable but vulnerable too.

I read your wonderful post, though didn’t see a place to comment. Thank you for caring and sending good energy to the koalas and their helpers.

I read about this story and that Australia is seeing a lot of bushfires and koala populations are being threatened. I think, the little one was called Lewis and he died after a week. So sad, but glad that he got love and care and so much of help is pouring in for the Koalas.

It is very sad, but thankful with you for the love and care many are getting. Even if they don’t make it, I hope they feel loved. It must be very hard for those caring for the injured ones, but at least they do what they can. Thanks for understanding.

Hi JoAnna – I too saw this on the news … and thought about all the wildlife of all sorts that couldn’t live through those fires – let alone the damage caused … so worrying. As you mention at least those that were ‘rescued’ had some care at their end … and the others I hope will live on. I saw the Port Macquarrie Koala hospital too … wonderful place. A great #WATWB … cheers Hilary

I do worry about all living beings in these fires. The animals must be terrified and confused. I’m thankful for all the heroes trying to help. Thank you for caring with me, Hilary.
