You take root in sandy soil
Reaching deep into the earth
Standing strong in fierce winds
You bend but don’t break.
Challenges build character.
These photos were taken at Trinity Center near the Carolina Coast. It’s been at least a year since I walked the grounds there. They have a habit of building around trees as much as possible which is better than cutting them down.
At Trinity Center, there’s a tunnel that goes under the main road and leads to the beach. This live oak stands watch.

I love the idea of building around nature. I also love the photo of the water and the rich reflections. Very nice, JoAnna.

Thank you, Dan. The water photo is one of my favorites. I am seeing more in that photo today.

I love trees, my neighbor across the street has the tallest trees. I love to look out the window and see.

They are inspiring! I’m glad you appreciate them so.

JoAnna, your post is beautiful and uplifting. I love the way the trees are incorporated as
they build. Your photos are beautiful and emotive.
Whilst on holiday in Florida I stayed on Smyrna Beach and the Smyrna beach town had a
huge tree with a restaurant built up among its crown. So ethereal.

Oh that sounds very beautiful. Like a tree house maybe but without harming the tree. I’m glad you enjoyed my tree love post, Miriam.

Building around trees is a great idea but maybe the roots and branches may become troublesome in the future… These are spectacular photos JoAnna! Especially the second one! Enjoyed this evisit of the Trinity Centre!

Yes, I can imagine there would be challenges with roots and the tree wanting to grow. But I appreciate that they try. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos.

What a beautiful Oak and the tree on the Carolina Coast. In Bangalore too, they build around trees vs cutting them. I was once in a restaurant where people were seated around a tree. See this – https://www.happinessandfood.com/thursdaytreelove-47/
I am so glad you joined and shared the beautiful trees. Loved them all.

Thanks for the link. The tree at the restaurant looks healthy as if the company is agreeable. 🙂 It’s encouraging!

How lovely to build around a tree! One more story for the tree to tell
April 26, 2019 at 10:39 pm
That is a lovely way to look at it – one more story for the tree to tell. Thank you!

The photos and trees are gorgeous. The deck (?) built around the tree reminds me of the scene in the film version of The Odyssey in which we see the tree growing in Odysseus’ and Penelope’s bedroom–straight through the roof. ‘Wouldn’t that be a wonderful experience?
April 26, 2019 at 11:10 pm
Yes! That would be wonderful. Thank you for that image of the tree in the bedroom. I’m glad you liked my trees.
