The dogwoods are blooming!
I took the top three photos Tuesday in our current neighborhood. The next one is a dogwood standing in front of a pine tree taken a few years ago. They look like friends, don’t they? I bet their roots intertwine and they hold on to each other during storms.
Love Letters to Tress:
The city of Melbourne, Australia gave email addresses to trees in case citizens wanted to notify the city about problems that needed to be addressed. But people also wrote love letters and greetings directly to the trees. You can read some of those letters in this article:Β When You Give a Tree and Email Address

Our dogwoods are starting to bloom. I was so worried because they were heavily damaged during our heavy wet snowstorm. And I love The Atlantic article SO much! Best thing I have read all day. Thanks for making my day a little brighter!

I’m very glad you enjoy them, Michelle. Up close these are sort of yellowish white and might become more white in a week or two as they open. I’ve seen photos of pink dogwood!

These are so lovely!! We dont have Dogwoods in my part of the world so thoroughly enjoying these spectacular blooms! I am told they have wonderful Fall foliage as well. Is that true?
March 29, 2019 at 6:06 pm
I forgot about that, but the leaves have interesting lines and turn red/brown in the fall. Also, they have red berries in the fall though not edible. I’m glad you enjoyed the flowers!

Who would ever have thought of emailing love letters to trees? I wouldn’t have. I love your dogwoods (we won’t have ours in New York State for another month or more) and your deep blue sky.
April 10, 2019 at 10:54 pm
Thank you, Alana. The email idea is sure different, but I bet the positive messages send good energy.
