Today’s Stream of Consciousness prompt is “hot/cold.”
I don’t usually mind the heat, especially with all the shade my trees give off. But last week, I was in the mountains, up around the Blue Ridge, and when I got back home, I thought, Man, it’s really HOT here. Hot and humid. I guess I had gotten used to cooler temps in the mountains. The other thing that happened when I got home is that my allergies hit me in the head, like a face mask monster in the movie, Alien. Okay, I’m exaggerating a little. When I was in the mountains, I was not congested at all. Before I left, I worried I was getting a cold. During my visit to a dryer, cooler climate, I could breathe easy. Then back home, Bam! Sinus headache. It might help if I go to the beach. It’s usually better at the beach.
I wonder if I move to the mountains, if I’ll miss the beach. Plenty of time to explore options. No hasty moves. I’ll have to research with more trips to the soft, old, green hills of Appalachia.
We can’t change the weather, but we can choose who we weather the storm with.
Or maybe we can change the weather. As a species, we’ve made a mess. Maybe we can clean it up. Every little bit helps. We do what we can. Plant more trees, save more trees, turn off the lights, eat lower on the food chain….
Be cool.
The Saturday Stream of Consciousness is brought to you by Linda G. Hill at:
https://lindaghill.com/2017/09/22/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-sept-2317/
The rules are:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.
8. Have fun!

I struggle with spring in Appalachia, allergy-wise. When I go out west, apparently I’m not allergic to anything? It’s pretty amazing to wake up and not need tissues, but still, I prefer my side of the Mississippi 😉
I like the way you turned weather to verb in whom we choose to weather things with. Seems hot and cold is all about each person’s level of comfort and those we choose to weather it with are a comfort.

I was thinking that Spring in Appalachia might trigger more allergies, but don’t recall. But I don’t think it will be any worse than where I am now. Here we get yellow pollen coating everything in the spring around April or May. Either way, winter is a comin’ !

Right! Bring on the winter! 🙂

Good image with the Alien movie reference. I do not like muggy or humid at all. It is pretty nice here right now, in the 70s. 🙂

That’s what my face felt like yesterday. Knew it wouldn’t last. Enjoy that cool, dry air! 🙂

Yes and it supposed to hotter this week here. Looks like pretty nice today. 🙂

Thank you! I like those best.

I liked the way you included several forms of weather and different locations, too. You are lucky to have someone to weather the storms of life with, as I am grateful for my family. My cousin isn’t too far younger than I am. She and her husband weathered the No Child Left Behind Act and left Ohio to live in a place where her degree got her more pay, better school system and her husband’s health has improved. They moved to the suburbs of Las Vegas, NV! 🏜

It’s good when we can choose where to live and who to be with. Kudos to your cousin for the brave move! Supportive family and friends are a valuable blessing.

I love your stream of consciousness! This looks like a really fun exercise! I can’t wait to try it!! One love. Many Blessings 💖💖💖

It is fun! Hard not to edit sometimes, though. 🙂 Linda gives the prompt Friday afternoons. I hope you join us. Blessings, to you, Kat! ❤ ❤ ❤

Wow, I hope you feel better soon! An alien mask on your face sounds like no fun at all!
September 26, 2017 at 11:51 am
Thank you, Mary. I may have been exaggerating which I can blame of the Stream of Consciousness. I seem to have adapted. 🙂

I drove through that area one time, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley. It was breathtaking. The value was lightly covered with snow and looked like a Norman Rockwell painting. I saw a deer like none I had ever seen before, prancing through the mountains. It was pretty much mostly black colored…amazing. I said to myself, “So THIS is what John Denver was talking about!”
September 27, 2017 at 10:39 pm
Valley, not value. Damn autocorrect😒
September 27, 2017 at 11:05 pm
It’s okay. 🙂
September 27, 2017 at 11:04 pm
I never knew there were mostly black deer. And you got to see it – prancing in the snow. How wonderful! For most of my life, I’ve longed for a Rocky Mountain High but have come to appreciate the gentler slopes of the older Blue Ridge. On every trip there, I end up singing “Country Roads.” Keeping JD’s music alive. 🙂

Nice photos! My situation is the reverse of yours: I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains and vacation at the beach (mostly SC). My favorite thing about the beach is actually riding bikes because it’s flat (not so flat here).
September 28, 2017 at 6:33 pm
Thanks, Sandi. The flat surface is something I’ve taken for granted. I can imagine the challenge of bike riding in the mountains. Maybe we will cross paths some day. 🙂

Maybe!
