Petrichor: the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil.
…
That smell I love so much,
When the rain first kisses the earth,
is more than a chemical reaction.
It’s the smell of the earth’s love for rain,
Strongest in the heat of summer
When the earth yearns for relief.
When the rain first kisses the earth
She giggles, then sighs,
and calls to me:
Come! Dance in the rain.
“I relaxed inside, nursing my baby girl and listening to the big kids sing silly songs in the rain. It was like a slice of heaven on earth.”

Thanks, Terri. I love it, too. Even though we’ve had more than our share lately. Wish I could send some to dry places.

I love warm summer rains, the kind that soak the earth gently, and don’t blow things around. Lovely poem and thoughts!

Thanks, Deb. Whenever it rains in summer, I think, it’s okay if I get wet, because at least it’s not cold, and the rain cools things off a little, until it’s over and the steam rises.

MMM, me too! Love it! Missing rain lately. Too much rain in May, not enough in August. *sigh*
Great post!

Petrichor is one of my favourite words! So nice to see you expressing it so elegantly. 🙂 Harlon

Thank you! I had read this before, but have to admit, I had to look it up again to spell it.

Now I know what poem to go to when I need to explain to rain scent non-lovers why I love the intoxicating smell that makes me oh-so happy every single time I smell it.

You are not alone! 🙂 I get it!
